Chronology of the hospital
Our hospital, founded in 1895, was originally named Taitung Clinic. It was situated at Pei-Nan street of Taitung Town. In 1898, we moved to No.38, Chung-sun Road of Taitung Town, and was renamed Taitung Government Hospital, Taiwan. The hospital was small and poorly equipped then.
In 1945, with the termination of Japanese colonization , the hospital was taken over by the Health Bureau under Department of Civil Affairs, Taiwan Provincial Executive Office. It was renamed Taitung Provincial Hospital under the Department of health, Taiwan Provincial Government.
In 1964, our hospital was approved to move to the present site(No.1, Wu-chuan street, Taitung city) and a 4-storey hospital was built [the present Outpatient Department building].The construction was fully completed for use on April 28, 1966.
On July1, 1999, due to government streamlining , the hospital was taken over by the Ministry of Health, and renamed Taitung Hospital of Health Ministry, Executive Yuan,Taiwan
Our hospital expands from the original 50 beds during the early post -Japanese era to the present 227 beds. These include 166 acute critical beds(inclusive of 50 psychiatric beds) and 61 special beds(3 emergent observation, 3 pediatric, 10 intensive care, 30 respiratory care, 15 hemodialysis). In addition we still have 98 beds in hospice, 50 daycare psychiatric beds, and 45 beds in psychiatric rehabilitation home, in total of 193 beds for chronic health care.
In 1990, our hospital was being credited as Regional Teaching Hospital (3 years duration) and then of the subsequent 1993(3 years), 1996(1 year), 1998(1 year), 1999( 3 years) and 2002(3 years). In 2006, and the following 2009, we passed the evaluation of “New Hospital Accredit ion” and “Class II Teaching hospital Accredition”. These will be valid until Dec. 31, 2012. |
